On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This day marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing journey toward equality and justice for all.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>West Virginia Day (June 20)</strong> honors the state’s formation on June 20, 1863, when West Virginia was admitted to the Union as the 35th state.
