City Offices Closed for Independence Day

  • Date: 07/04/2025  (all day)
Attention, residents of Martinsburg:

In celebration of Independence Day, our municipal offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025. But don’t worry—freedom will still be open 24/7!

Garbage and recycling pickup will be collected one day early due to the holiday schedule. If your usual collection day is Friday, please set your bins out on Thursday, July 3 instead. Thursday's garbage will be collected on Wednesday, along with recycling.  Let’s keep things running smoothly and avoid creating any trash-related revolutions!

Why do we celebrate the 4th of July?
On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence, signaling the birth of the United States and our pursuit of life, liberty, and the happiness that comes with BBQ and sparklers. It’s a day to honor the courage and vision of those who forged our nation’s path to freedom.

Important Reminder: Fireworks may dazzle the sky, but they’re illegal within the Martinsburg city limits. Let’s keep our community safe and sound by leaving the pyrotechnics to the professionals.

We wish everyone a safe and joyous Independence Day! Remember: fireworks are best enjoyed in the sky, not in your driveway.

Thank you for your understanding, and we’ll be back to serve you (as usual) on Monday, July 7.

Happy Fourth of July!
