City Offices Closed Juneteenth and West Virginia Day

  • Date: 06/19/2025  (all day)

In observance of Juneteenth and West Virginia Day, the City of Martinsburg offices will be closed on June 19 and 20, 2025.

Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This day marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing journey toward equality and justice for all.

West Virginia Day (June 20) honors the state’s formation on June 20, 1863, when West Virginia was admitted to the Union as the 35th state. This holiday celebrates the rich history, culture, and heritage of the Mountain State.

As we reflect on these important moments in history, we encourage everyone to take time to learn more about the significance of Juneteenth and West Virginia Day and how they shape our community and nation.
