Wastewater Collection & Conveyance
The City of Martinsburg’s sanitary sewer system consists of over 100 miles of gravity sewer line, varying in size from 6 inches through 32 inches along with two lift stations, to convey the wastewater to the wastewater treatment plant. Older neighborhoods are served by a combined sanitary/storm sewer system that conveys both sanitary and storm water flow to the wastewater treatment plant.
The City of Martinsburg’s wastewater treatment plant located on East John Street extended is a 3.0 million gallon per day single stage trickling filter plant with oxidation tower, high flow screening, two stage anaerobic digestion and belt filter press for solids dewatering capable of treating up to 10 million gallons per day. Treated effluent from this facility is discharged to the Tuscarora Creek at outlet No. 001. Combined sewer overflow is discharged to the Tuscarora Creek at outlet No. 002.
